Egypt foils plan to create chaos ahead of Jan. 25 uprising anniversary- ministry

Egyptian Ministry of Interior says it has aborted a scheme to destabilise the country on the anniversary of the Jan. 25 uprising.

The ministry which said this in a statement on Wednesday in Cairo added that security had also been tighten across the country to halt the operation of the scheme.

“The scheme, drawn by seven members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood in Turkey, targeted luring and preparing youth to carry out riots.

“They also targeted those who want to sabotage state facilities during the ceremonies of the 2011 revolt that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak,’’ the ministry said in a statement.

It added that several members of the Hasm movement, Brotherhood affiliates, were arrested for spreading lies on the social media to provoke the people against the government.

“The forces seized, during raids on the terrorists’ houses, a drone, 20 automatic weapons, 12 multi-task pistols, RPG, explosive devices and materials used for making bombs and masks,’’ it added.

The Egyptian authorities tightened the security measures across the country’s public areas ahead of the ninth anniversary of the Jan. 25 uprising that also commemorate the country’s Police Day.
