The African Games are heating up! While Egypt remains a strong contender, holding the top spot with a whopping 134 medals, a fierce battle is brewing for second place.

Nigeria has surged ahead, claiming 62 total medals, with Algeria hot on their heels at 86.

South Africa isn't far behind in fourth with 81 medals.

Meanwhile, the host nation, Ghana, has dropped to 16th place with just five medals. The ranking is primarily based on the number of gold medals won, followed by silver, then the total medals earned.

The delayed 2023 African Games started in Ghana, with athletes from 52 nations participating in 30 disciplines, including eight Olympic qualifying sports.

The games will be held in Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast, and around 5,000 athletes will compete for medals. The African Games will conclude on March 23, 2024.
