Kenya has announced that it has no plans to evacuate its citizens in China's city of Wuhan - the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak.

The information was made public by Kenya's ambassador to China during an interview with a local TV station.

Ambassador Sarah Serem, presently in Kenya, said that "the option for evacuation should not be an immediate concern for now."

United Stated evacuated about 200 US citizens from China after undergoing three screenings before departure and two more when they landed in the States.

Other countries have been making plans to evacuate their citizens from Wuhan, but Ms Serem said China was in a better position to deal with the virus, the Star newspaper reports.

Reports by the National Health Commission (NHC) revealed that as of Wednesday, the total number of coronavirus cases, 5974, has surpassed the confirmed cases recorded during SARS 5,327 in mainland China in 2003.

So far, 132 people have died as a result of the novel coronavirus as at Wednesday and that is nothing near the 349 deaths recorded during the SARS outbreak. [CNN]
