A South African nurse has converted part of her home into a clinic providing low-cost healthcare to residents of a township.

Paulinah Mafatshe and her two colleagues, Mabu Sekhaolelo and Veronica Mogashoa, were about to retire when they decided to set up the facility together in Mamelodi, north-east of the capital Pretoria.

"We think for the community," they told radio station Power 98.7 FM.

According to Sowetan Live, Wellness Today clinic is the first of its kind in the township. Local media also say it is one of the first health clinics headed solely by black women.

Child immunisation, pregnancy tests, HIV tests and counselling, flu vaccines, minor wound care, TB and malaria screening are among the services on offer, Sowetan Live reports.
