Angola is expected to get a total of 75,000 cattle in place of the $100m (£82m) debt owed by Chad.

Both countries agreed to the terms in 2017, after Chad, who is short of cash, proposed payment with cattle, which they have in excess with Angola in need of cattle.

The deal is expected to help the southern African state rebuild its cattle population in drought-affected areas, the state-run daily paper said.

According to the BBC, the cattle payment is set to run for a 10-year course, meaning adding that the conversion per animal is set at the sum of $1,333.

Angola has now received the first payment of more than 1,000 cows which arrived by ship in the capital, Luanda, Jornal de Angola reported.

Chad would send a further 3,500 herd of cattle later this month, the report added.
