Sunshine Stars’ Chief Coach, Edith Agoye, says his Akure-based club is still evolving and his players would soon rise to the occasion in the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Agoye, speaking after Sunshine Stars defeated Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia 1-0 on Sunday in Akure in a Group B Match Day 4 fixture, said they were still a “work in progress”.

“We are not yet stabilised. Every day we (will) improve, game by game. Today, we improved a little bit more in the aspect of scoring first and not conceding, which is very good for the team.

“Our players are rising up to the occasion. We are satisfied with the performance of the team, for them to measure up and defeat Abia Warriors,” he said.

Sporting Tribune reports that Sunshine Stars stretched their unbeaten run to four matches with a win, after playing a draw in three consecutive games.

The match at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure had Samson Olasupo giving the hosts the decisive goal in the 35th minute.

Abia Warriors showed some flashes of coming back which was well curtailed by Sunshine Stars’ defenders for the game to end 1-0.

Agoye further said it was not acceptable playing three matches without winning.

“Though we didn’t lose, but we want a much more better result for the team, and thank God we got the important three points today”.

Speaking also, the Abia Warriors coach, Erasmus Onu, said the match was a good and fantastic game that was also well officiated.

“We will go back to the drawing board to assess and address areas where the team needed to be adjusted ahead of our next match,” he said.

Sunshine Stars now has six points from four matches.
