FC Barcelona have officially reported Paris Saint Germain to UEFA following a controversial banner displayed by French club supporters ahead of their UEFA Champions League fixture at the Parc des Princes.
The offensive tifo featured a masked figure wearing a PSG shirt destroying the Barcelona crest with a chainsaw alongside the French phrase 'massacre Parisien' style.
Barcelona strongly condemned the display, describing the imagery as a deliberate promotion of violence and hatred in football.
The club strongly condemns the incidents that took place when the tifo was displayed in the stands, including the images of a blood-covered chainsaw attacking the Barca crest, Barcelona said in a statement to BBC Sport.
The Spanish club insisted that such hostile messaging runs contrary to the fundamental values of respect, fair play, and sportsmanship.
Football should be a space for healthy rivalry, mutual respect, and passion for the game, free from messages that promote hatred or violence, the club added.
The official complaint could trigger disciplinary proceedings under Article sixteen of UEFA regulations, which prohibits provocative or inappropriate messages during sporting events. Penalties could include financial fines depending on the governing body's formal assessment.
The controversy followed a thrilling European encounter where PSG defeated Barcelona four goals to two in the French capital, handing the Spanish side their first defeat of the campaign.
