Arsenal have officially announced the signing of London-born Nigerian defender Habeeb Ogunneye.

The Premier League champions confirmed the arrival of the 20-year-old full-back in a statement on their official website. However, the club did not reveal the length or financial details of his contract.

Ogunneye’s move to Arsenal brings an end to his 15-year spell with Manchester United, where he joined the academy at a young age and progressed through the club’s youth system.

He was first involved with Manchester United’s senior team in February 2024 when he was named in the squad for an FA Cup fifth-round match against Nottingham Forest.

Although Ogunneye was included in the first-team matchday squad on 10 occasions, he did not make a senior competitive appearance for the club before leaving Old Trafford.

Looking for regular first-team football, Ogunneye spent the first half of last season on loan at Newport County in League Two.

The defender played an important role as Newport County fought to remain in the division. He made 15 appearances for the club and scored one goal before returning to Manchester United.

Ogunneye will now begin a new chapter of his career at Arsenal.
The Nigerian defender is expected to initially play with Arsenal’s youth team while also training with the first team.

He could get more opportunities to train with the senior squad during international breaks, when some of Arsenal’s senior players are away on international duty.

The move gives Ogunneye another opportunity to develop his career and compete for a place in Arsenal’s first team in the future.
