Atalanta are weighing a summer move for Super Eagles left-back Zaidu Sanusi as the Italian club prepares for a major overhaul following a difficult 2025/26 season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Bergamo side missed out on a top-four finish in Serie A, failed to win a trophy and are bracing for significant changes, including a possible managerial switch with Raffaele Palladino’s future uncertain and Maurizio Sarri linked as a potential replacement.

As part of their squad strengthening, Atalanta have identified Sanusi as a target, attracted by the 28-year-old’s wealth of experience at the top level of European football.

Sanusi came through Gil Vicente and Santa Clara before joining Porto in 2020, where he developed into a key figure. He was part of the Porto side that won the Portuguese league title in 2021/22, scoring the decisive goal in a 1-0 victory over rivals Benfica that clinched the championship.

A serious ACL injury disrupted his progress but he fought his way back into the squad and contributed again as Porto secured another league title in the recently concluded season.

Transfermarkt values the Nigerian defender at around €3m, though Porto are reportedly seeking approximately €7m for his signature. Sanusi is contracted at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season, and while Porto are open to extending his deal, they may look to sell rather than risk losing him for nothing if an agreement cannot be reached.

His relatively modest wage, reported at under €1m per year, makes him an attainable target for Atalanta, who are believed to be willing to spend up to €10 million to secure the Super Eagles defender.
