Former Super Eagles winger John Utaka has advised Victor Osimhen to join Real Madrid if popular coach José Mourinho eventually gets the Los Blancos job and requests his signature.
Osimhen is currently ending his second season at Galatasaray and has helped the club secure their 26th league title this season, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists in 22 league appearances.
The striker has been the subject of transfer interest in the last three summer transfer windows, and it was recently reported that Mourinho’s link to the Madrid job could also spark Los Blancos’ interest in him.
According to reports in Spain, Mourinho, who is currently in charge of Benfica, is holding talks with the Spanish giants ahead of a potential return to the Santiago Bernabéu. The Portuguese manager is seen as a figure who could restore stability in the dressing room after a tumultuous season under Xabi Alonso and Álvaro Arbeloa.
A squad overhaul could require a new striker, and Utaka believes Osimhen would be a perfect fit at the club under Mourinho.
“If I were Osimhen, I would go because if Mourinho has requested him, it means he really wants him. Osimhen wants to win trophies and Real Madrid is a perfect fit,” Utaka said via Brila.
Mourinho has admired Osimhen for years. During the striker’s time at Napoli, the pair faced each other in Serie A when Mourinho managed AS Roma. While the Portuguese manager has openly compared the Nigerian to Didier Drogba, he has also criticised him at times.
Osimhen has also been heavily linked with Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Catalans reportedly view him as a viable alternative to €200m Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez.
Meanwhile, Galatasaray have reportedly placed a €150m price tag on Osimhen and are unwilling to entertain offers for the striker.
