On-loan midfielder Frank Onyeka says he is proud to have been part of Coventry’s return to the English Premier League after helping them secure the Sky Bet Championship title, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

After sealing promotion last Saturday, Coventry confirmed their title win with a commanding 5-1 victory over Portsmouth at home on Tuesday night. The result sealed the title with two matches still left to play, a competition they dominated from start to finish.

Since arriving on loan from Brentford F.C. in January, Onyeka has played a key role in Coventry’s promotion push, making 13 appearances and starting 12 matches as he quickly established himself as an integral part of the team.

The move to the Championship was a calculated decision by the midfielder in search of regular playing time after limited opportunities at Brentford in the Premier League, but it has proved decisive in shaping both his season and Coventry’s success.

One of his standout moments came on April 3, when he scored a stunning goal in a thrilling 3-2 win over Derby County F.C.. That result proved crucial, which extended Coventry’s lead at the top of the table at a key stage of the season.

Reflecting on the achievement, Onyeka shared his pride and appreciation for the journey on social media.

“History doesn’t happen overnight; it takes 25 years. Promotion. Champions. Proud to play a part in something special,” he wrote on X.

Onyeka is expected to remain at Coventry on a permanent basis, with a compulsory €7m buy clause reportedly triggered by the club’s promotion.

Coventry coach Frank Lampard sees him as a key part of the squad heading into their first Premier League campaign in 25 years, where survival will be the immediate target.
