Carrick or Ole? Man United legend emerges as interim frontrunner

Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to land the caretaker role at Old Trafford.

As widely reported in the English press, the Manchester United hierarchy want to hire an interim manager to steady the ship for the remainder of the season before appointing a substantive coach at the end of the current campaign.

The race, which is currently between two club legends, Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Michael Carrick, has reportedly tilted in favour of the Englishman.

Carrick previously served as interim manager of the club in 2021 after his current competitor, Solskjær, was sacked.

He recorded two wins and a draw in his brief spell in charge before Ralf Rangnick took over on an interim basis.

According to reports, Carrick has emerged as a strong candidate to secure the caretaker role due to his familiarity with the club, making him the preferred option over Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties at Manchester United last week after 14 months at Old Trafford.
