AFCON: Mahrez breaks silence after Nigeria edged Algeria in quarterfinal

Algeria skipper Riyad Mahrez has reacted to his side's elimination from the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Mahrez was unable to make any meaningful impact as the Super Eagles defeated the Desert Foxes on Saturday, January 10.

Goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed a commanding 2-0 victory for Eric Chelle's side, who progressed to the semi-finals of the competition.

It was mission accomplished for the Super Eagles, who avenged their painful semi-final loss to Algeria at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.

Sharing his reaction after the loss, Mahrez, in a post on social media, expressed disappointment with the elimination; however, he vowed that the Desert Foxes would bounce back.

“Disappointed by the elimination but proud of this team and this group, in success as in the more difficult moments,” Mahrez posted on X.

“Thank you to our supporters and to all the Algerian people for your support throughout the competition. We will come back stronger, as always.”
