Tella returns to Leverkusen team training

Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella has returned to full team training after several weeks on the sidelines with a persistent knee problem, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

According to German newspaper Bild, they described his participation on Tuesday as “good news for Bayer Leverkusen”, after the Nigerian completed most of the session for the first time since mid-September.

Bild said the 26-year-old “made large parts of the session with the team”, signalling progress ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to Wolfsburg.

Tella has not featured since sustaining a knee knock in the 3–1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on September 12, a setback that repeatedly disrupted his recovery.

While it remains uncertain whether he will be cleared to play at the weekend, Bild stated that “the chances are not bad that Tella will at least be in the squad”.

During the training, Tella sat out the final practice match but worked individually on passing and shooting drills alongside Axel Tape, who is also nearing a return after injury.

The report noted that manager Kasper Hjulmand appears to be taking a careful approach, prioritising a pain-free return for Tella after such a long absence.

The timing of his comeback could prove significant. Arthur, who has recently occupied the right flank, has produced mixed performances, creating an opportunity for Tella to reassert himself in the side.

Leverkusen face a demanding run of eight matches over the next four weeks, including fixtures against Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle United, and RB Leipzig.

Tape is expected to be eased back more cautiously following a muscle-tendon injury, while Lucas Vázquez remains out with back problems and did not train on Tuesday.

Tella’s return adds a timely boost as Leverkusen manage a congested schedule and look to maintain momentum across domestic and European competitions.
