Nigerians on social media have reacted after Ghana’s Black Stars secured their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup ahead of Nigeria, following a 1–0 victory over Comoros.
The Black Stars needed a win to clinch the top spot in their qualifying group and they delivered, as Mohammed Kudus slotted home a square pass from Thomas Partey early in the second half.
The victory at the Accra Sports Stadium marks the fifth time Ghana has qualified for football’s biggest stage.
Among African nations, only Cameroon (8), Morocco (7), Tunisia (7), and Nigeria (6) have made more World Cup appearances.
The feat also makes Otto Addo the first coach to lead Ghana to back-to-back World Cup qualifications, having guided the team to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after missing the 2018 edition in Russia.
While celebrations erupted across Ghana, many Nigerians took to social media to express frustration with the Super Eagles, who are yet to secure their qualification.
Despite still standing a chance, Eric Chelle’s men must defeat Benin Republic by at least three goals in Uyo and hope that Rwanda beats South Africa in the group’s other fixture.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
