Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi has revealed that the club is ready to welcome Ademola Lookman back into the team with open arms—provided he expresses a clear desire to continue playing for the club.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year has reportedly fallen out with the club following controversy surrounding his failed summer move to Inter Milan.
The 28-year-old went AWOL for two weeks during pre-season after Atalanta rejected a €45 million bid from Inter for his signature.
The Super Eagles forward eventually returned after the Nerazzurri pulled out of the deal, but he has yet to be reintegrated into the squad.
New head coach Ivan Juric has made it clear that he will not beg Lookman to play for the team, citing the player's poor attitude during training sessions.
However, CEO Luca Percassi emphasized that the door remains open for the Nigerian international—if he demonstrates renewed commitment.
“You cannot go back and change the past, so we will focus on the present and future. We all know how good Ademola is, but also that in order to play for Atalanta, you must be 100 per cent focused,” Percassi told Sky Sport Italia.
“When he feels ready to do that, we are waiting for him with open arms.”
