Former England defender Danny Mills has suggested why Super Eagles legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha never played for any top Premier League team during his prime.
Okocha first played for Borussia Neunkirchen in Europe before later joining Eintracht Frankfurt after two seasons in the German Bundesliga.
He later joined Fenerbahçe in the Turkish Super Lig, where he spent two seasons before moving to Paris Saint-Germain for four seasons.
Okocha moved to the Premiership in 2002, where he played some of his best football after joining Bolton Wanderers.
Despite his dazzling displays, Okocha never featured for the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal.
Mills believes Okocha could have played even better at any of the top six teams in the Premier League due to the quality of players at those clubs.
“Can you imagine if he’d been in an Arsenal or at Man United of that time, you know, rather than Bolton? He could have been even better, you know, because of better players,” he told Complete Sports.
“How he wasn’t at one of those clubs [Arsenal, Man United, etc.], I’m not quite sure.
“Maybe the fact that he was so maverick and was such an individual — maybe some of the top clubs looked at that and thought, ‘How do we accommodate him into a team?’
“But yeah, Jay-Jay Okocha was absolutely sensational,” he added.
