Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has admitted that Nigeria has not done enough in their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The three-time African champions now face a daunting task following their 1–1 draw with South Africa in Bloemfontein.

The result leaves Nigeria in third place in Group C with 11 points—six points behind group leaders South Africa, who sit comfortably with 17 points.

To stand any chance of qualifying for the global showpiece in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Eric Chelle’s side must win their remaining two matches against Lesotho and Benin Republic.

Even then, they would need Bafana Bafana to lose both of their final fixtures.

Nwabali, who plies his trade with Chippa United in South Africa, acknowledged that the Super Eagles failed to approach the qualifiers with the urgency required.

“We should have made more effort to qualify for the World Cup. We left it very late,” Nwabali told journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
