Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been removed from the list of players registered by the club amid betting allegations leveled against him.
The 25-year-old is currently under investigation for allegedly placing a bet on his yellow card offense against Lazio in the Serie A last season.
Okoye risks a potential five-year ban if found guilty.
The Super Eagles goalkeeper had his house raided by investigators following a complaint by betting agency Sisal, whose algorithm detected unusual gambling activities linked to the goalkeeper’s yellow card.
According to the PUNCH, the Prosecutor’s Office in Udine also searched the premises of Diego Giordano, a pizzeria owner whose restaurant is frequented by Udinese footballers, as part of the investigation.
Okoye has been replaced by newly-signed goalkeeper Egil Selvik in their 25-man squad, but it remains unclear if the decision was influenced by the betting scandal.
