Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has explained the reason behind the signing of Jaden Sancho this summer.
The 24-year-old joined the Blues from rivals Manchester United on a season-long loan on transfer deadline day.
The signing of Sancho came as a surprise to many fans as the England international has fallen behind on the pecking order at Old Trafford.
Sancho, who was sent out on loan at former club Borussia Dortmund midway through last season missed Manchester United's first two Premier League games against Fulham and Brighton.
Explaining the motive behind the signing of the former Borussia Dortmund man, Maresca highlighted that Sancho thrives in one-on-one situations and he is a player who will add a lot of bite to the Blues attack.
“I’m very happy to have Sancho at Chelsea. He’s here because we value a player who excels in 1v1 situations,” the former Leicester City manager stated as per Fabrizio Romano.
“He’s crucial in breaking down tight defences; we need him for that,” Maresca added.
