Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Issa Hayatou, former President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Hayatou, who was the longest-serving CAF president and once served as the acting President of FIFA, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Paris, France, at the age of 77.

Recognizing Hayatou's significant contributions to global sports, President Tinubu also expressed solidarity with the Cameroonian Football Federation, the people of Cameroon, and the African football community as they mourn his loss.

President Tinubu described Hayatou’s passing as a tremendous loss, emphasizing his pivotal role in the growth of football both in Africa and internationally. He offered prayers for Hayatou’s soul and wished his family strength during this challenging time.
