Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has expressed gratitude to former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr for helping him achieve his dream of representing the Super Eagles.

Born in Germany to a Nigerian father and German mother, Okoye was eligible to play for both countries but chose to represent Nigeria.

He made his debut in October 2019 in a friendly against Brazil under Rohr's guidance.

Okoye credited Rohr with providing him with opportunities in his early years as a Super Eagle.

In an interview with Tribal Football, he said: "Playing for the Super Eagles was always a childhood dream. Lutz (his agent) played a big part in making that happen, as he was in good contact with Gernot Rohr, who opened the door for me."

Okoye added: "I'm forever grateful for the opportunities Rohr gave me during my early years as a Super Eagle."

Since his debut, Okoye has earned 16 caps for Nigeria and had a successful season with Udinese, helping the team avoid relegation and establishing himself as the first-choice goalkeeper.
