Mario Balotelli survived a near-death experience after getting involved in a major car crash in Brescia, Italy.

The former Manchester City striker escaped unharmed but was spotted walking with difficulty after the incident.

The accident is said to have happened around 8:30 pm on November 23 after he lost control of his Audi car, ramming it into a wall.

Sky Sports Italia reports that the former Manchester City striker refused to take a breathalyzer test after the police arrived at the scene, which led to the confiscating of his driver's license.

After the accident, it is reported that he crawled out of the car and lay on the ground as he waited for help.

The 33-year-old is back in Italy from his Turkish club, Adana Demirspor, as he recovers from an injury.

Earlier this week, the former Liverpool man declared his intentions to fight for a place in the Italian national team set-up, insisting that he is the best striker the country has.

"If I’m well, I still consider myself the strongest. Did Raspadori and Scamacca play? How many shots did they take combined? Two? I want to recover and play for the national team. I always hope for the call," as quoted by GOAL.

The Azzurri recently qualified for next year's Euro Championships, where they will be defending their title under the guidance of former Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti.
