Nigerian striker Sadiq Umar has said that he joined La Liga side Real Sociedad to prove his worth and not necessarily to replace Alexander Isak.

The 26-year-old was brought in from UD Almeria after the club cashed in on the Sweden international for a staggering €70m move to Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Following his outstanding performance with the newly promoted La Liga side, Sadiq was considered the suitable option to lead the Sociedad attack.

After scoring on his debut, the ex-Roma forward suffered a serious injury that has kept him out of action for more than six months.

Speaking in an interaction with The Hindsight Podcast, the Super Eagles striker noted he doesn't see himself as a replacement for the Newcastle striker but to to enjoy his game and also help the team.

“The way we inside football see it is different from the way other people outside football see it.”

“I don’t see it as a replacement or a big money transfer and will now start giving myself pressure. I see it as a normal transfer

“I came here to play good football, to help the team and to show myself”

Sadiq last featured for Sociedad against Getafe in September last year. He scored 3 goals in 5 appearances for Real Sociedad prior to his injury.
