Conference League: Moffi helpless as Basel knocks out Nice

Nigerian striker Terem Moffi and his OGC Nice side were sent packing out of the UEFA Europa Conference League as they suffered a shocking 2-1 defeat to Swiss side FC Basel on Thursday, April 20.

Moffi, 23, was unable to replicate his stellar performance at St. Jakob Park in the first leg where he scored two stunning goals in a 2-2 draw.

Les Aiglons began the game on the front foot and found the back of the net after a fine assist from Moffi, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The French side will go ahead to open the scoring a minute later courtesy of Gaetan Laborde after a fine piece of work from Moffi, Thuram, and Ramsey.

Nice continued their dominance in the first half but failed to double their advantage after a couple of waste chances from Laborde.

The Swiss side finally got their equalizer late in the 86th-minute courtesy of Jean-Kevin Augustin to force the game to extra time.

Ghanaian international Kasim Nuhu grabbed the winner in the second half of extra time as Basel secured a 4-3 aggregate win to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

Super Eagles star Moffi was substituted in the 73rd minute, a time his side were cruising to a 1-0 victory.
