After bossing the Belgium Jupiler League after netting 17 goals in 26 appearances for KRC Genk, Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is yet to find the back of the net after joining Southampton in the Premier League on transfer deadline day.

In this piece, we explore what some fans have said about the Super Eagles striker's situation at his new club and what they believe has caused his goal drought in the Premier League.

Lack of service

Former Super Eagles midfielder Jonh Ogu has blamed Paul Onuachu's poor form in the Premier League on lack of service from his teammates.

Wrong timing

Some fans believe the lanky Nigerian striker joined the Saints at the wrong time. A summer move would have been best for the former Genk man.

_@Uncle_Babs said: Wrong timing, wrong club.... Should have waited till summer.

Wrong club

Others believe Paul Onuachu should have joined a different club in a less competitive league. A move to La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, or the Eredivisie would have changed the narrative.

_@linususiholo: Again I've put my opinion on this up here before. Nigerian players need to stop going to the Premier League or any tier of British football it's not an easy place to settle. France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Holland and Spain are much better destinations for our players to ply their trade! ????????

_@alokasand11: Nigerian footballers and wrong decision na 5&6. Southampton of all clubs. His market value will go so low after this season.

Competitive nature of the Premier League

Onuachu's struggles at St Mary's has also been blamed on the competitive nature of the EPL.

Managerial changes

Some sections of the fans believe a change of managerial hands can be fingered for Onuachu's woes in the English topflight.

Southampton sacked Nathan Jones last month after just 14 games and three months in charge, in his place came Spanish manager Ruben Selles.

_@tiwalade_omo_oba: outhampton coach that refuses to carry Joe Aribo for games, drops caleta car on the bench , drop elyounousi on the bench , the coach has something wrong with him , it's not onwuachu fault.
