Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen is closing in on equalling the record for most Serie A goals scored by an African player.

The record is currently held by George Weah - The former striker-turned-president netted 46 goals in 114 appearances for AC Milan, helping the Rossoneri to two Serie A titles in five seasons.

Osimhen who has been phenomenal for Napoli this season is just three goals shy of levelling the record held by the former Ballon d'Or winner.

The 24-year-old has so far managed 43 goals in 71 Serie A appearances since joining the Naples-based club in the summer of 2020.

A chunk of the Super Eagles striker's goals has come this season, as he has netted 19 times in 20 league appearances for Luciano Spalletti's side.

Another Serie A record the Nigerian sensation has in sight is Gabriel Batistuta’s goalscoring streak of 11 games for AS Roma.

The ex-Lille attacker has so far scored in his last 8 consecutive matches in the Italian topflight.

Osimhen will be presented with another opportunity to pursue the aforementioned records when Napoli take on Lazio in the Serie A at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Friday, March 3.
