Rohr explains his role in Moffi's transfer to Nice

Former Super Eagles Head Coach Gernot Rohr has disclosed that Terem Moffi's transfer to OGC Nice was based on his recommendation to his former club.

The impressive 23-year-old Nigerian striker joined Nice from FC Lorient on transfer deadline day for a reported fee of €30m.

The Nigerian international made his debut for his new side in their 3-1 win against Olympic Marseille last Sunday.

According to Rohr, Moffi is ranked among the best strikers in Europe at the moment — having scored 12 league goals for Les Merlus before his move.

The 69-year-old handed Moffi his international debut with Super Eagles in 2021 in an international friendly against Cameroon in Austria.

“It is a pleasure to speak about Moffi, I invited him to the Eagles for the first time two years ago, he is a very talented player, even stronger physically like many other strikers in Europe’s big teams,” Rohr told PUNCH Sports Extra.

“Mentally he is very good as well, good discipline, good character, great fighting spirit, good shooting and fantastic headers.

“And he is going for €30m to my former club Nice, can you imagine that?

“Some people at Nice asked me about him before this offer and I gave them my honest recommendation with a good conscience about him with regards to his qualities because he is very strong. Several clubs wanted to sign him. He had seven offers in January and I think it is a good move for him.”

Rohr was the head coach for OGC Nice from 2002 to 2005.
