Nigerians react as 85-year-old Obasanjo scores hat-trick in old boys college match

Photos of former President Olusegun Obasanjo serving as the captain of a football team at his alma mater's novelty match has gone viral.

The Former President on Monday, January 24, joined the Baptist Boys High School (BBHS), Abeokuta in a football match to celebrate the college's 100th anniversary.

85-year-old Obasanjo won the hearts of many with his energetic performance during the match between old students of the college and former teachers of the school.

Obasanjo scored a hattrick to end it 3-0 in favor of his team. He then led his teammates to the stand to receive their medals.

Since photos of obasanjo playing football hit the internet some Nigerians have shared their thoughts.

One said: “While someone who aspires to be the next President cannot work or talk unaided."

“Another one who was an ex General like OBJ, cannot even run 200 metres without falling down. I didn't mention names.”

Another added: “The definition of God bless you. He's had it all. Even at old age he's still enjoying it. May God bless good and patriotic Nigerians.”

One said: “Some people that are contesting because it's their time can't even climb a staircase. Baba may you live long.”

A fan replied: “When he was a little boy like the one behind him; no one except God knew that he will one day become the most decorated person in the history of Nigeria." “God is great and should be worshipped.”

Obasanjo was Nigeria’s head of state between February 1976 and October 1979, before he took over the role of president from May 1999 to May 2007.
