NPFL: Okpe’s late strike secures Remo Stars away win

Ambitious Remo Stars yesterday recorded the only away win of Matchday Three of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday following their solitary winner courtesy of a Andy Okpe’ s 89th c minute against Gombe United at the Pantami Stadium.

In Maiduguri, El Kanemi Warriors added woes to the fortune of Nasarawa United following their 2-1 win at the El Kanemi Sports Complex. It was the Borno Armies ‘ first win of the season after their 2-0 opening day loss to Remo Stars while the Solid Miners are without any points after two games with their opening game ending in another loss to Enyimba in Jos.

Igbudu Alpha with the opening goal for El Kanemi in the 12th minute while Musa Zayyad doubled the advantage in the 61st minute. Nasarawa United reduced the deficit in the 90th minute through Onuche Ogbelu.

In Benin, Bendel Insurance needed a 93rd minute strike through Imade Osehenkhoe before beating visiting Plateau United at the Sam Ogbemudia Stadium.

At the Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba, Ibadan, Shooting Stars were unable to penetrate through a stubborn Kwara United defence in a local derby while Niger Tornadoes relied on Idris Munir’s early goal to beat Doma United by the odd goal for their second win of the season.

It was a 1-1 draw between Sunshine Stars and reigning league champions, Rivers United at the Ondo Sports Complex, Akure. The Pride of Rivers drew the first blood through an own goal by the Owena Whales’ defender but honours were evened from the spot four minutes before the final whistle through Ejike Uzoechi.

At the Pantami Stadium, Gombe produced the only away win of Matchday Two following Remo Stars’ shock 1-0 win over Gombe United. Andy Okpe scored the only goal of the game in the 89th minute.

In Group A, Bendel Insurance and Remo Stars are the early leaders with two wins out of two with Enyimba in third spot with four points.

In Group B, Abia Warriors and Niger Tornadoes are the early pacesetters with six points from two games. Dakkada FC and Rivers United are with four points each.
