The Chester Crown Court has cleared Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy of seven out of the nine counts of sexual allegations levelled against him.

After a five-month trial, the French international has been found not guilty of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The relieved Mendy held his head in his palms as the verdict was read out.

Meanwhile, the court is yet to make a determination on the two remaining charges- one count of rape involving a 24-year-old woman and another count of attempted rape involving a 29-year-old woman.

The 28-year-old left-back was suspended by Manchester City following his arrest in August 2021 and the club stopped paying his wages in September of the same year.

Mendy's contract with the Cityzens expires this summer, it is unclear if the club will still extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium.
