Osimhen fails to deliver at Inter Milan; Success’ Udinese share spoils against stubborn Empoli

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen failed to hit the target for his Napoli side as they succumbed to a 1-0 loss at Inter Milan.

Napoli were looking to begin the year in style when they traveled to the Giuseppe Meazza to trade tackles with former champions Inter Milan.

The Partenopeans were yet to taste defeat in the league, but Inter Milan had something to prove, as they suffered a poor start to the season.

As expected, the game was very tight from the start, with few chances falling to both sides. However, the second half was a little different.

Inter Milan took the initiative in the 56th minute, and it was their Bosnian striker that came through for them. Edin Dzeko ran onto a clever lofted pass from Franco Dimarco and sent a strong header past Alex Meret in Napoli’s goal to make it 1-0 for Napoli.

Napoli woke up after they went a goal down, but Inter Milan held on to their lead. Osimhen was ineffective in front of goal. He registered one shot on goal, two failed dribbles, lost five of his duels, and lost the ball seven times.

Inter Milan held out for the 1-0 win, but Napoli would look to bounce back when they play Sampdoria on Saturday.

Success and Udogie help Udinese secure a point against Empoli

Udinese were looking to start their 2023 on a strong note when they welcomed Empoli to Dacia Arena. Isaac Success and Destiny Udogie both started for the Bianconeri but they got off on the wrong foot.

Tommaso Baldanzi put the visitors in front after just three minutes. But it took Udinese till the 70th minute to respond, and Udogie was involved.

Udogie set up Roberto Pereyra for the equalizer. Success had a decent outing. He recorded 49 touches, three accurate long balls, one key pass, and won five fouls.

Both teams saw out the 1-1 draw.
