Nigerians aim a dig at Super Eagles as Morocco breaks a new record

As Morocco becomes only the fourth African team to advance to the FIFA World Cup quarterfinals, some Nigerian sports enthusiasts criticize the Super Eagles.

Morocco defeated Spain 3-0 in a shootout following a scoreless draw to go to the World Cup quarterfinals, Achraf Hakimi emerged as the match’s hero.

After 120 minutes, there was no way to separate the two sides, and Spain’s three penalties—two of which were beautifully saved by goalie Yaccine Bounou—were all missed.

That left PSG’s defender, Hakimi, to win it with his fearless penalty shot and ignite joyful celebrations in the fans.

Morocco supporters, who mostly crowded Education City Stadium, went crazy at the final whistle as their team advanced to the round of eight for the first time, where they will take on Portugal on Saturday, December 10.

After that, several sports enthusiasts in Nigeria began to tease the Super Eagles on their various Twitter feeds.

Another sports lover wrote:

“I thought Nigeria is the giant of Africa.”????

Another sports enthusiast blasted the Super Eagles’ lacklustre performance:

“Nigeria team can’t do this. In a country where they choose a player base on corruption… Even on African soil, they hardly perform.”

Other sports fans said the Nigerians should not be called the giant of Africa, seeing that they’ve not broken the record before:

“So Nigeria has not reached there before?. Why call ourselves the giant of Africa, then?”
