Manchester United turn to Cody Gakpo, shelve Osimhen as Ronaldo replacement

Netherlands in-form forward, Cody Gapko is now a realistic target for Manchester United as Napoli continue to play hardball with Victor Osimhen.

Manchester United want Victor Osimhen and are willing to bring the 23-year-old striker to Old Trafford, following the exit of Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports in Italy, however, have stated that Napoli are not ready to let the striker leave on less than their valuation of €100 million.

With Napoli unwilling to shift grounds over their demand, several sources say Manchester United have now turned their attention to Gakpo, who also has a lot of admirers among Old Trafford chiefs.

The Dutch striker is the joint top scorer at the ongoing FIFA World Cup alongside Kylian Mbappe, Ener Valencia and Marcus Rashford on three goals.

He has 18 goals and 17 assists in 28 appearances for Club and Country this season.

PSV valued Gakpo at €55 million in fixed, a price United considers reasonable.

However United still have work to do as they must convince PSV to sell the striker in January and find a buyer for Antony Martial or Jadon Sancho.
