Bayern Munich has debunked widespread reports claiming that Senegalese international Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the World Cup following his injury against Werder Breman last night.

The former Liverpool forward was substituted in the 20th minute after he sustained an injury in Bayern's 6-1 demolition against Werder Bremen at the Allianz Arena.

Earlier reports suggested that the 30-year-old has been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup which kicks off in the next 11 days in the Gulf region of Qatar.

Contrary to initial claims, the Bundesliga champions have allayed such fears, explaining that Mane's injury was not too serious.

“Sadio Mané was hit on the leg, which caused him a little nerve pain,” Bayern's assistant coach Dino Toppmöller said, as per the Guardian.

“Nothing too serious and his participation in the World Cup should not be in jeopardy.”

Meanwhile, head coach Julian Nagelsmann refused to comment on Mane's injury situation until the Senegalese international undergoes a medical scan.

“I can’t say anything for sure; he took a blow to the head of his shin,” he said.

“That’s an unpleasant spot; it radiates a bit into the muscles. I think he has to go to the X-ray to see if there is something there, because it is splintering easily.

“But I hope that nothing is wrong. I can’t say anything for sure yet.”

The African champion's performance at the World Cup will largely depend on the contribution of Mane.

The ex-Southampton man helped Aliou Cisse's side to win the Nations Cup earlier this year after he netted 4 goals in the competition.

Senegal will face the host Qatar, Netherlands, and Ecuador in Group A.
