Super Eagles kick starts World Cup Qualifiers preparation with Lesotho match

Super Eagles Super Eagles

Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr says he might not make wholesome changes to the team that played Benin Republic on Saturday, when Nigeria return to action on Tuesday.Rohr has hinted Tuesday’s selection for the final game of the AFCON 2021 qualifiers – against Lesotho – will remain largely same,  because preparation for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers has commenced.

Nigeria sealed qualification for the AFCON in Cameroon on Saturday following the Group L matches played on Saturday.

Victory in Porto-Novo also means the three times African champions will finish as the Group winners which automatically guarantees them a place in the next phase of 2022 world cup qualifiers.

“We will change a little bit, but I want to bring the best squad, because we have started preparations for the world cup qualifiers. We will play in June, but we will here in May to prepare for the match,” Rohr said after the practice session on Monday.

“We don’t have plenty matches to play and I can’t give playing time to everyone. Some of our players are still missing (Simon Moses, Samuel Kalu and maybe Iwobi again), but there are options for look into.”

Meanwhile, CAF has cleared Alex Iwobi for the game against Lesotho after the winger’s second Covid-19 test result returned negative.
