Former Wimbledon star, John Fashanu, has heaped praises on Everton star Alex Iwobi following an excellent performance against Wolves in the English Premier League on Tuesday.

Iwobi has been impressive for Carlo Ancelotti’s side and was on target as he scored the first goal of the night for the Toffees in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wolves at the Molineux Stadium to end a 15-month goal drought.

Ironically, the Nigeria international’s last EPL goal was also against Wolves on September 1, 2019, when Everton laboured to a 3-2 win at Goodison Park.

“Iwobi is a fantastic player with a lot of qualities and I am happy,” Fashanu said.

“I’m sure he must be relieved to have got his first goal after 15 months because it is not easy to be without a goal for that long. But, I must say that he has been doing great work helping the team.

“Even though he hadn’t been scoring, he has improved defensively this season and that’s why he’s been getting a lot of minutes. The coach has confidence in him, which is very important.

“I’m sure this goal will help his confidence but he must not relent. He needs to build on that so that he can keep his place in the team.”

Iwobi has scored four goals with four assists since joining Everton from Arsenal in 2019.
