Former Nigerian goalie, Ike Shorunmu has urged the Super Eagles to better their FIFA ranking as to be better placed for seeding purposes.

Mr. Shorunmu said the team must be deliberate about the rankings.

In a chat with Brila, Shorunmo said as much as the rankings don’t play football, it is equally important to the national team and the country so as to make their journey sometimes easy.

“When FIFA are doing their thing, they first look at the ranking before they now know which team is placed in what category. So the ranking is very important to the country and I hope good things will follow.”

Nigeria’s senior national ended this year as the 35th best team in the world.

The Super Eagles remain unmoved in December’s ranking published by FIFA on Thursday.

Gernot Rohr’s men amassed a total of 1474 points to stay as the fifth-best team on the continent behind Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.

It was also a year the three-time African champions failed to win a single football game.
