Nigerian fans have hailed former Lobi Stars forward Anthony Okpotu after he emerged the highest goal scorer in the Tunisian Ligue 1 on his debut campaign with US Monastir.

The 26-year-old, who moved to Tunisia in August 2019, finished the season with 13 goals from 23 league games to emerge top scorer.

He also helped his club finish third in the 2019/20 season and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup.

His exploits didn’t go unnoticed in Nigeria as fans praised him for repeating the feat he achieved with Lobi Stars in 2017, when he finished as the Nigeria Professional Football League’s top scorer with 19 goals.

“Congratulations to @ToniOkpotu for your feat in Tunisia. Come on boss, can we see more of this in the coming season. All the best better player,” @Uche05316875 wrote on Twitter.

“Congratulations the panther,” Stephen Kifanzi also added.

Henry Usha wrote, “Congratulations to the #Panther, Anthony Okpotu Golden Boot winner in the Tunisian league #KingOfGoals.”

Timothy Emmanuel stated, “Respect to the king of goals @ToniOkpotu.”

Okpotu started his club career at Lobi, before a switch abroad in 2013 to Al-Ittihad Tripoli, where he spent one season, before he returned to Lobi.

In April 2018, the striker had trials at Danish club Brondby, but joined Moroccan side Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi three months later.

Last year, Okpotu, who has two goals in six caps for the Super Eagles B team, had a loan stint at Albanian club KF Laçi.
