Ex-German midfield sensation, Michael Ballack, has revealed that he regretted his decision to leave Chelsea.

The ex-Chelsea midfielder opened up on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk podcast a decade after departing from the Bridge for a return home to Bayer Leverkusen.

Ballack took a switch to England from German giants, Bayern Munich, in 2006 and left in 2010, scoring 17 goals in over 100 appearances for the London club.

Reflecting on his departure from England, he said: “Carlo Ancelotti wanted me to stay but the club made a decision to only give players of that age a one-year contract. I wanted two.

“Today I can say maybe it was wrong, I should have stayed even for that one year.

“I could never imagine that I would go back to Bayer Leverkusen until the last day, I actually thought we would find a way at Chelsea.

“I was really hoping I could stay until the end.”

An injury he picked up an ankle injury in the 2010 FA Cup final win over Portsmouth ruled him out of the World Cup in South Africa.

Ballack ended his international career afterwards and finally hung his boots two years after(2012) as a Bayer Leverkusen player.
