Yobo should be coaching home based Super Eagles, not Eguaveon - Ikpeba

Victor Ikpeba Victor Ikpeba

Victor Ikpeba has faulted the decision of the Nigeria Football Federation to allow Austin Eguavoen to handle the Home-Based Eagles.

Eguaveon who is the Technical Director of the NFF will lead 26 NPFL stars to Congo for an invitational tournament.

Recalled the former Super Eagles defender was also in charge of the squad for their last international engagement against Mexico last July in the United States.

Reacting to the decision on Monday Football Night Football on Supersports, Ikpeba said, the Super Eagles assistant coach, Joseph Yobo should have led the team and not Eguaveon.

“I don’t think Egueavoen should have been saddled with the responsibility of handling the Super Eagles team B that will face Congo.”

“I think the Super Eagles assistant coach should have been giving the task to get the job done and not him. Maybe, Gernot Rohr should have supervised the whole affairs while Joseph Yobo should be the main man.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria will trade tackles with hosts DR Congo, Congo Brazzaville and Sierra Leone in the competition.
