World Cup update: Ecuador 1-2 Senegal

African champions Senegal are on the verge of becoming the first African team to qualify for the knockout stages at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Taranga Lions are currently leading Ecuador 2-1 courtesy of goals from Ismaila Sar and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Sar gave Alou Cisse's side the lead from the spot on the stroke of halftime before Moises Caicedo equalized for the South Americans in the 68th minute.

Kalidou Koulibaly responded swiftly to restore Senegal's lead two minutes after Ecuador's equalizer.

The Netherlands are also leading hosts Qatar 2-0 in the other Group A encounter.

If the scores remain the same, The Orange will qualify as Group winners with 7 points whiles Senegal will finish as runners-up with 6 points.
