Achraf Hakimi was in high spirits after Morocco’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Haiti.
The Atlas Lions came back twice to defeat Les Grenadiers in their final match of group play at FIFA World Cup 2026.
Yassine Bounou’s own goal gave Haiti the lead after 10 minutes.
It was Sebastien Migne’s side first World Cup goal in 52 years.
Morocco equalised through Hakimi in the 39th minute. The full back bundled the ball over the line after Johny Placide had parried away a shot from Bilal El Khannouss.
Haiti restored their lead four minutes later courtesy of a superb strike from Isidor.
Morocco drew level again in first-half stoppage time, with Ismael Saibari finding the back of the net after he was set up by Hakimi.
Soufiane Rahimi and Yassine Gessime found the net in the second half to seal an important victory for the North Africans.
Hakimi thumbs up Haiti
Hakimi admitted that Haiti made life difficult for his team throughout the match.
“It was a tricky game, a difficult one. We didn’t start well, but we changed our mindset and worked hard to get ourselves back into it. We managed to win thanks to the way we attacked,” Hakimi was quoted by FIFA.com.
“At half-time, the message was to stay focused on winning the second balls. We couldn’t let them grow in confidence. We’re proud of what we did, but now we need to recover well and get ourselves ready for what’s next.”
