Former Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr expressed his discontent following his unceremonious dismissal by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Despite successfully qualifying for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the final round of World Cup playoffs, the 70-year-old was sacked by the Amaju Pinnick-led administration in December 2021, just four weeks before the delayed 2021 AFCON kicked off in Cameroon.

The NFF had agreed to pay Rohr's salary until the end of his contract, which was due to expire in December 2022. However, the Franco-German coach went to FIFA to demand additional compensation for breach of contract without just cause.

Rohr had sought a total of £1 million but was granted $377,879.46 after a FIFA tribunal partially accepted his claim, as per the BBC.

Rohr later made some shocking remarks about his tenure as head coach of the national team.

"I'm surprised at how Nigeria treats their coaches. It is not only for me, but also for other coaches. We are not paid, and we are sacked," Rohr said.

"We never lost any competitive game away from home, we lost at home because of distractions from friends and family," he added.

Rohr was Nigeria's longest-serving coach from 2016 to 2021. He led the team in 64 matches, recording 35 wins, 16 draws, and 13 defeats.

He got his revenge against the Super Eagles by leading Benin Republic to a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in Côte d'Ivoire, putting a dagger in Nigeria's World Cup hopes.
