Wayne Rooney names Paul Scholes as his best Manchester United teammate

England legend Wayne Rooney has named fellow countryman Paul Scholes as the best player he played with at Manchester United.

The 35-year-old starred with some superstars including the likes of Ryan Giggs, Cristiano Ronaldo, Edwin van der Sar, and several others during his reign at Old Trafford.

He revealed that he had to understudy the retired footballer while preparing to move back into midfield later in his career.

Rooney joined the Red Devils from Everton in 2004 and parted ways with them 13 years later - winning five Premier Leagues, one Champions League, Europa League, and FA Cup titles.

Though Ronaldo was honourably mentioned by the former DC United attacker, Scholes was expressly mentioned as reported by Metro UK.

Rooney, still trying to play in the midfield with Championship side Derby County has made him appreciate the supreme talent of Scholes even more. He told the official Manchester United podcast:

"Scholesy, I think, obviously Ronaldo has gone on, him and Messi, to probably be the best two players to ever play the game."But I just think at the time, Scholesy was brilliant. The things he could do with the ball, he obviously weren’t the quickest but he was so sharp you couldn’t get near him. "I remember knowing that at the backend of my career I’d be going back into midfield so I was almost studying him and watching him in training and games. "It was brilliant for me, first hand, to watch him and learn.’ Legit.ng earlier reported Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has been named Derby County interim manager following the sacking of Phillip Cocu.

Derby announced the axing of Cocu alongside his backroom staff on Saturday, November 14 and according to a statement from the Championship side, the decision was reached by mutual consent.
