The Olympics 1996 semifinal between Nigeria and Brazil remains one of the greatest moments in the history of African sports.

On July 31, 1996, Brazil squared off against Nigeria with Ronaldo having netted four goals in as many games.

Brazil drew first blood, taking the lead 1-0. However, Nigeria swiftly responded with an own goal from Brazil, leveling the score at 1-1.

But the battle continued as Brazil struck back quickly, with Bebeto notching another goal, putting Brazil ahead 3-1.

At halftime, the score remained 3-1, leaving Nigeria with just 45 minutes to find the back of the net twice.

In the 78th minute, Ikpeba managed to score a crucial goal for Nigeria, narrowing the deficit to 3-2 and sparking hopes of a comeback.

Then, in the final moments of the match, at the 90th minute, Kanu Nwankwo netted a dramatic equalizer, making it 3-3.

The game headed into golden goal territory.

In the 94th minute, Kanu, who was captaining the Nigerian side, became the hero by scoring the golden goal. The Super Eagles clinched the match 4-3.

The entire nation erupted in jubilation as this unforgettable victory became a defining moment in the lives of the '96 Super Eagles players.
