Super Eagles ace Victor Osimhen got a presidential handshake from the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as part of Galatasaray’s Super Lig title celebrations.
The 26-year-old led the Cim-Bom to their 25th league title, which earned them a fifth star on their badge. It has been a series of celebrations since their coronation against Kayserispor, and yesterday, they met with the president of Turkey.
Erdogan hosted the Galatasaray squad and staff to celebrate their league and cup double. He shook hands with each of the players, including Victor Osimhen, in a picture now making the rounds.
After the event, the president took to social media to congratulate Galatasaray and charged them to shine in the Champions League next season.
“We came together today in Istanbul with the esteemed athletes and executives of Galatasaray, which has achieved a significant success by becoming the champions in the Super League and the Turkish Cup, and has earned the right to wear the fifth star on its coat of arms with 25 championships,” Erdogan said on X.
“I believe that Galatasaray a distinguished club that stands out not only with the trophies it has won in its history but also with its sports culture, the exemplary athletes it has trained in many branches and the contributions it has made to the image of our country, will make us proud in the Champions League next season. I send my greetings to Galatasaray fans and the entire Galatasaray community.”
While the celebrations are ongoing, Galatasaray fans are intensifying their efforts to convince Osimhen to remain at the club beyond this season. Recently, a fan took out a digital billboard ad in Times Square, New York, begging Osimhen to stay at the club.
The Nigerian has a release clause of €75 million, and Galatasaray are confident they can match it and also afford his wage demands. However, Osimhen has other offers and still harbours Premier League ambitions.
