Nigerian international Ademola Lookman has explained why Atalanta lost to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The Serie A leaders lost 3-2 to Los Blancos at the Gewiss Stadium in an entertaining clash in Bergamo.
Kylian Mbappe gave Carlo Ancelotti's side the lead in the 10th minute before Charles De Ketelaere equalized from the spot on the stroke of halftime.
Vinicius Junior restored Real Madrid's lead in the 55th minute before Jude Bellingham added another three minutes later.
Lookman reduced the deficit in the 65th minute as the record title holders held on to secure a crucial victory to keep their hopes of securing automatic qualification to the next round alive.
Speaking in a post-match reaction, Lookman, who was adjudged Man of the Match, disclosed that Real Madrid took their chances whereas they were unlucky.
“Tough game, they took their chances when they had them. We knew what type of game it would be, we were unlucky, but we have our heads held high,” he said as quoted by UEFA.com.
“We are disappointed with the result because we felt we could have done more, but there is also pride.”
