UCL: Turkish football expert backs Osimhen after difficult Barcelona game

Former Turkish football referee Ahmet Çakar has sent a message of support to Victor Osimhen following his frustrating performance against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, October 13.

The 27-year-old was kept quiet for most of the game as his side suffered a 4-1 defeat to the Spanish giants at RAMS Park.

Goals from João Cancelo, Fermín López, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi completed a comeback after Aleksey Batrakov had landed the first punch for the home side in the 28th minute.

Osimhen, who saw his first-half goal ruled out for offside, had a difficult game against the Barcelona defence.

The Super Eagles striker was caught offside six times and was limited to just 12 touches during the match.

He also managed one shot off target, won three of his nine duels and lost possession six times.

Speaking about Osimhen’s performance during his assessment of the game on the Libero TV YouTube channel, Çakar blamed the Nigerian striker’s teammates for failing to provide him with adequate support on the pitch.

He added that the Napoli striker had only recently returned from injury and could not be blamed for the team’s poor performance.

“Osimhen, you know, he could play for any team in the world, he’d be the top scorer in the Premier League,” Çakar said.

“I didn’t see anything like that in this match. I admit that he’s just recovered from injury, but what kind of performance did the team give him that he should play like that?”
