Valencia face a difficult task in the 2nd leg Valencia face a difficult task in the 2nd leg

Italian side, Atalanta. have placed themselves in the driving seat and are heading to the UCL quarte-finals as it stands, after thumping Valencia 4-1.

The Spanish side, who were undone by the superb display of Atalanta's players, only managed to net a goal.

Hans Hateboer, with two (16', 62'), Josip Ilicic (42') and a wonder-strike from Remo Freuler (57') saw off the two-time finalists, who were shell-shocked by the pace of their opponents in attack and their incisiveness. There is surely no way back for Albert Celades' Spanish side. [BBC]

Valencia's consolation came in the 66th minute, courtesy Denis Cheryshev.

Atalanta continues to cruise with fine displays in their debut appearance at the Champions League.

There is possibly no coming back for their newest victim, Valencia, who were obviously shocked by the Italian side.
